If you have short-sightedness, you won’t be able to see distant objects, but will be able to see close objects clearly. Now there is good news for all the short sighted people, and that is “Contact Lenses”. Researchers in America recently revealed that Contact lenses could cure vision problems by coaxing the eyeball to grow into a healthier shape.
Causes of Short Sightedness:
Short-sightedness usually progresses until the eyes stop growing at around the age of 20. The severity of short-sightedness then usually decreases but it can also get worse as you get older. The reasons for short sightedness are not yet defined clearly, however it’s more likely for the following:
• Genetic Disorder (Have parents who are short-sighted)
• For those who do close-up work such as sewing or using a computer.
• Have another health condition that can affect your eyes, such as Marfan’s syndrome or homocystinuria
Diagnosis of Short Sightedness:
If you’re struggling with short sightedness, book an appointment with an optometrist to have your eyes tested. Your optometrist will ask you to read a chart (called a Snellen chart) from a distance of six meters. The chart has large letters at the top and small letters at the bottom. If you're short-sighted, you won't be able to read the smaller letters on the chart.
Treatment of Short Sightedness:
Short sightedness can be usually corrected by wearing glasses or contact lenses. Concave contact lenses will help focus light more precisely on the retina so that you can see distant objects.
If you’re slightly short-sighted or “squinty”, you can wear contact lenses occasionally, such as when you’re using computer, sewing machine, driving, or watching TV.
